A Note on Nature

The home is set in the tropics, surrounded by beautiful rainforest, gardens, and wildlife, which is all part of the magic here. While the house is professionally cleaned and regularly treated for pests, you may still occasionally see an ant, spider, native rainforest cockroach, or other small critter thats accidentally made its way inside. This is completely normal for Far North Queensland.

Most insects here are harmless and tend to keep to themselves, but we understand that’s not always comforting, especially if you're not used to Australian bugs! If something does appear there is bug spray under the kitchen sink.

Wildlife

🐦 Bush Stone-curlew | Common to see and hear at night. A nocturnal ground-dwelling bird known for its haunting nighttime call (completely harmless). 🔗

🦃 Australian Brush-turkey (Bush Turkey) | Common to see during the day. Often seen walking around during the day and scratching in the garden. Totally harmless and very common in this region. 🔗

🦘 Agile Wallaby | Rare to see. May appear at at dawn and dusk. They’re shy and gentle. 🔗

🐾 Common Brushtail Possum | Rare to see. A night-time visitor in trees or roofs. They’re curious but avoid people. 🔗

🦎 Northern House Gecko | Common to see. Tiny, harmless geckos that eat insects — a helpful indoor companion! 🔗

🐸 Green Tree Frog | Rare to see. Beloved in the tropics — completely harmless and often seen on windows or walls after rain. 🔗

🐭 Fawn-footed Melomys (Native Mouse) | Rare to see. A small, shy native rodent found in rainforest areas — very different from city mice, and a very important part of the ecosystem.🔗

  5. Place your cup under the spout. Adjust the cup stand or remove it if needed.

  6. Check there is enough water in the reservoir at the back. Refill if needed.

  7. Insert a coffee pod into the top and close the lid.

  8. Press your selected size button to start brewing.

Coffee pods, tea, and UHT milk are all located in the drawer underneath the machine.

Filtered Water Tap

This home is equipped with a Zip tap, it provides chilled filtered water as well as standard hot and cold tap water. You’ll find it in the butler’s pantry.

The right-hand side operates as a normal tap. The left-hand side dispenses chilled filtered water, simply tap/press the top button and when the light is blue it is activated, then pull the leaver towards yourself.

Air Conditioning

In the tropics, setting the unit below 23°C can cause condensation and humidity, which can trigger smoke alarms, and put strain on the units causing them to stop working. Please keep the air-conditioner temperature set at 23°C or higher.

If smoke alarms are activated or the unit stops working due to the air-conditioner being set below 23°C, a service fee may apply.

Laundry Appliances

Washing Machine Instructiuons

The machine has been pre-set for simple use.

  1. Press Power On

  2. The dial will light up on Everyday Wash (recommended setting)

  3. Add laundry liquid to the detergent drawer, filling to the max line (this will auto-dose the correct amount)

  4. Press Start/Play

Optional: If you’d like to use fabric softener, please let us know and we can provide instructions.

BBQ

The Gas BBQ is plumbed into the main house gas so it has continuous fuel.

BBQ CLEANING

Please clean the BBQ after eacjh use. To do this quickly and easily, after you finish cooking, turn the BBQ to the highest heat and close the lid for about 5 minutes. This will burn off any remaining food and oil and makes it simple to scrape once the BBQ has cooled.

Rubbish

The wheelie bins are located in the garage.

Bin night is Tuesday

Please take the big wheelie bins to the road side ready for collection the following morning.

Here are a few instructions from the City Council to ensure the bin is collected:

✔ Position the bin before 6am on the day of collection

✔ Place the bin on the footpath next to the kerb, handle towards the house

✔ Ensure waste and recycling bins are placed at least 50cm apart

✔ Do not overfill bins, the lid must close fully

✔ Do not overload the bin (maximum weight is 70 kilograms)

✔ Do hazardous waste (flares, batteries, gas bottles)

Waste bins are for general household waste only and recyclable packaging waste must be placed in the yellow lid recycling bin. Please make sure to keep out hot ash, chemicals and solvents, syringes and needles from all bins.

If you have concerns that there is too much rubbish and it may not be collected, please contact your host so they can assist you.

MID-STAY CLEANING:

Mid-stay cleans and linen changes are available upon request for an additional fee. Please contact us if you require this service.
