A Note on Nature
The home is set in the tropics, surrounded by beautiful rainforest, gardens, and wildlife - which is all part of the magic here. While the house is professionally cleaned and regularly treated for pests, you may still occasionally see an ant, spider, native rainforest cockroach, or other small critter thats accidentally made its way inside. This is completely normal for Far North Queensland.
Most insects here are harmless and tend to keep to themselves, but we understand that’s not always comforting — especially if you're not used to Australian bugs! If something does appear there is bug spray under the kitchen sink.
Wildlife
🐦 Bush Stone-curlew | Common to see and hear at night. A nocturnal ground-dwelling bird known for its haunting nighttime call (completely harmless). 🔗
🦃 Australian Brush-turkey (Bush Turkey) | Common to see during the day. Often seen walking around during the day and scratching in the garden. Totally harmless and very common in this region. 🔗
🦘 Agile Wallaby | Rare to see. May appear at at dawn and dusk. They’re shy and gentle. 🔗
🐾 Common Brushtail Possum | Rare to see. A night-time visitor in trees or roofs. They’re curious but avoid people. 🔗
🦎 Northern House Gecko | Common to see. Tiny, harmless geckos that eat insects — a helpful indoor companion! 🔗
🐸 Green Tree Frog | Rare to see. Beloved in the tropics — completely harmless and often seen on windows or walls after rain. 🔗
🐭 Fawn-footed Melomys (Native Mouse) | Rare to see. A small, shy native rodent found in rainforest areas — very different from city mice, and a very important part of the ecosystem.🔗
Air Conditioning
There are air conditioners only in the bedrooms.
Please make sure bedroom doors are kept closed when using the air-conditioners and that the temperature is never set below 23 degrees. In the tropics, setting it lower can cause condensation, increase humidity, and trigger smoke alarms.
It can also put unnecessary strain on the units causing them to stop working. If the room doesn’t feel cool enough, please increase the fan mode on the remote rather than lowering the temperature.
Keeping them at 23 degrees with the fan setting on high and the doors and windows closed will cool the room well and quickly.

Please take the big wheely bins to the road side ready for collection the following morning.
Here are a few instructions from the City Council to ensure the bin is collected:
✔ Position the bin before 6am on the day of collection
✔ Place the bin on the footpath next to the kerb, handle towards the house
✔ Ensure waste and recycling bins are placed at least 50cm apart
✔ Do not overfill bins, the lid must close fully
✔ Do not overload the bin (maximum weight is 70 kilograms)
