A Note on Nature

The home is set in the tropics, surrounded by beautiful rainforest, gardens, and wildlife, which is all part of the magic here. While the house is professionally cleaned and regularly treated for pests, you may still occasionally see an ant, spider, native rainforest cockroach, or other small critter thats accidentally made its way inside. This is completely normal for Far North Queensland.

Most insects here are harmless and tend to keep to themselves, but we understand that’s not always comforting, especially if you're not used to Australian bugs! If something does appear there is bug spray under the kitchen sink.

Wildlife

🐦 Bush Stone-curlew | Common to see and hear at night. A nocturnal ground-dwelling bird known for its haunting nighttime call (completely harmless). 🔗

🦃 Australian Brush-turkey (Bush Turkey) | Common to see during the day. Often seen walking around during the day and scratching in the garden. Totally harmless and very common in this region. 🔗

🦘 Agile Wallaby | Rare to see. May appear at at dawn and dusk. They’re shy and gentle. 🔗

🐾 Common Brushtail Possum | Rare to see. A night-time visitor in trees or roofs. They’re curious but avoid people. 🔗

🦎 Northern House Gecko | Common to see. Tiny, harmless geckos that eat insects — a helpful indoor companion! 🔗

🐸 Green Tree Frog | Rare to see. Beloved in the tropics — completely harmless and often seen on windows or walls after rain. 🔗

🐭 Fawn-footed Melomys (Native Mouse) | Rare to see. A small, shy native rodent found in rainforest areas — very different from city mice, and a very important part of the ecosystem.🔗

Slow Monday Tip ~ Start early, before the heat builds. Pick up a coffee locally, then head to Crystal Cascades. Stay longer than you planned.

You’ll find a beautiful private swimming pool at the property, designed for slow afternoons and easy evenings in the sun. Adjacent to the pool is a relaxed bar area, complete with a bar fridge, making it a lovely spot to unwind, share a drink, and settle into the pace of the tropics.

Please note there is an old beer tap system (kegerator) in place. While it adds a bit of character to the space, the fittings are no longer functional and it is not available for use.

A few simple guidelines:

  • The pool and bar area are for your private use during your stay

  • Please supervise children at all times around the pool

  • No glass in or directly around the pool area

  • Please turn off lights and ensure the bar area is left tidy after use

A calm, easy space to enjoy, we hope you make the most of it.

Air Conditioning

VERY IMPORTANT TO KNOW IN THE TROPICS

1. Keep the tempriture above 23 degrees.

This will prevent condensation and dampness. Keeping the temperature at 23 will keep the home cool, comfortable, and dry, while also protecting you and the house from mould.

2. If you want the house to cool down faster, adjust the fan rather than lowering the temperature.

Setting the temperature lower will not cool the home any quicker. Instead, turn the fan setting up to high, or use the power or turbo function if the remote has one. This boosts airflow and helps the room reach 23 degrees much faster.

3. Turn the air conditioners off whenever you leave the house.

We are committed to environmentally sustainable practices and kindly ask that the units are switched off when the property is unoccupied.

Thank you for helping us care for the your health, the home, our environment, and ensuring a comfortable stay.

Laundry Appliances

Washing Machine Instructiuons

The machine has been pre-set for simple use.

  1. Press Power On

  2. The dial will light up on Everyday Wash (recommended setting)

  3. Add laundry liquid to the detergent drawer, filling to the max line (this will auto-dose the correct amount)

  4. Press Start/Play

That’s it, your wash will begin.

Optional: If you’d like to use fabric softener, please let us know and we can provide instructions.

BBQ

There is a spare gas bottle in the carport.

For an easy clean, after you finish cooking, turn the BBQ to high heat and close the lid for about 10 minutes. This helps burn off any remaining food and makes it simple to scrape once the BBQ has cooled.

Please make sure the gas is turned off at the bottle after use.

If the gas runs out, feel free to swap to the spare bottle and let us know so we can replace it.

Rubbish

The wheelie bins are located in the garage.

Bin night is MONDAY

Please take the big wheelie bins to the road side ready for collection the following morning.

Here are a few instructions from the City Council to ensure the bin is collected:

✔ Position the bin before 6am on the day of collection

✔ Place the bin on the footpath next to the kerb, handle towards the house

✔ Ensure waste and recycling bins are placed at least 50cm apart

✔ Do not overfill bins, the lid must close fully

✔ Do not overload the bin (maximum weight is 70 kilograms)

✔ Do hazardous waste (flares, batteries, gas bottles)

Waste bins are for general household waste only and recyclable packaging waste must be placed in the yellow lid recycling bin. Please make sure to keep out hot ash, chemicals and solvents, syringes and needles from all bins.

If you have concerns that there is too much rubbish and it may not be collected, please contact your host so they can assist you.

MID-STAY CLEANING:

Mid-stay cleans and linen changes are available upon request for an additional fee. Please contact us if you require this service.
